Applications are invited for Fully Funded PhD Scholarships (Research) position in Organic Chemistry at The Faculty of Chemie (IOCB), Universität Bielefeld, Germany.

Your Tasks

  • Research tasks within a third-party funded project (92 %), especially:
    • design of recombinant enzymes with protein engineering tools applying molecular modelling methods
    • development of analytical methods (HPLC, GC) to characterize enzymatic reactions with respect toconversion and analysis of enantiomers
    • process development of biotransformation reactions
    • combination of biocatalysts with chemo-catalysts to establish chemoenzymatic one-pot reactions
    • Teaching duties supervising practical courses (8 %)

Successful applicants will receive the following benefits:

  • Salary will be paid according to Remuneration level 13 of the Wage Agreement for Public Service in the Federal States (TV-L)

Eligibility

To be eligible for Scholarships (research) position, an applicant must:

  • Relevant scientific degree (e. g. Master in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biotechnology, Molecular Biology or related disciplines)
  • Excellent theoretical skills and in-depth practical experience in the preparation of recombinant enzymes and their characterisation
  • Experience in application of enzymes in biotransformation reactions
  • Excellent German or English language skills
  • Team-oriented and cooperative style of work
  • Motivation and willingness to present scientific results on Conferences and to publish in scientific journals
  • Practical experience in analytical methods (NMR, GC, HPLC), especially in analysis of enantiomers
  • Knowledge and practical experience in protein engineering
  • Experience in molecular modelling
  • Experience with working in project teams
