Applications are invited for Fully Funded PhD Scholarships (Candidate) in Machine Learning Theory at The Mathematical Institute of the Faculty of Science, Leiden University, Netherlands.

Details

The statistics group in the Mathematical Institute of Leiden University invites applicants for a PhD Scholarships position in theoretical machine learning. You will design and mathematically analyze new online machine learning algorithms that can automatically adapt themselves to multiple different types of data. Such online algorithms process data sequentially, one data point at a time, and play a key role in machine learning for very large data sets, for instance the training of deep neural networks. Additionally, all PhD applicants are expected to spend a small part of their time to contribute to teaching.

The proposed PhD Scholarships position is funded by Van Erven’s NWO VIDI grant, which includes a generous budget for personal development. Applicant can further expect close supervision to help you produce, publish and present top-level research at foremost international machine learning Conferences or in journals.

  • A full-time, 04-year term position
  • Gross Monthly Salary range from €2325 to €2972

Eligibility

To be eligible for Scholarships (Candidate), an applicant must:

  • An MSc degree in mathematics/statistics/AI or related area
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher, who likes to work in an internationally oriented environment
  • Excellent grades and a good reference letter
  • Proficiency in English language
  • Good programming skills are considered an advantage
