Fully Funded 10 PhD Scholarships in Computer Science – Germany

"Role-based Software Infrastructures for continuous-context-sensitive System

Applications are invited for 10 Fully Funded PhD Scholarships in Computer Science for “Role-based Software Infrastructures for continuous-context-sensitive Systems” At TU Dresden the DFG Research Training Group GRK, Germany. The PhD project is for applicants interested in performing high-quality research on the connection between Software Engineering, Database Systems, and Theoretical Computer Science as well as their applications in systems Biology and Business Informatics.

In the present age of the “Internet of Things“, research into software that is able to autonomously adapt to constantly changing conditions is of utmost importance. The aim of group is to use the role model to make software development more efficient and to make running software components more agile. Role-modeling during the development process allows explicit specification of possible changes of behavior of software on the modeling level. Therefore, it outperforms the classical (object-oriented) approaches, especially with respect to the adaptability to existing surroundings. Possible fields of application include software for the SmartGrid – the intelligent power grid of the future, software for Cyber-physical Systems in the home, Traffic and Factory or Context-sensitive Search Engines.

The proposed research program is a joint activity of Professors Lehner, Assmann, Baader, Castrillon, Baier, Furrer, Sbalzarini, Schill, Strahringer, and Strufe at TU Dresden. PhD Scholars will join an individual mentoring and qualification program that comprises specialized courses that prepare candidates optimally for their research. Also, a research seminar is offered where scholars can discuss with internationally renowned researchers in their field. Moreover, soft skills and language courses are offered.

The applicants are required to meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • MSc in Computer Science or related disciplines (such as Mathematics or Business Informatics)
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written) either IELTS or TOEFL
  • Good knowledge of Software Engineering

Applicants are required to submit the following documents with application:

  • CV
  • Transcripts of Degrees, Reports, certificates
  • Letter of Motivation
  • Names of two referees (contact number and email)

Applications from women and persons with disability are encouraged to apply.
