10 Fully Funded PhD Scholarships in Biochemistry – Germany

Applications are invited for 10 Fully Funded PhD Scholarships in Biochemistry at University of Tuebingen, Germany.

The International Max Planck Research School IMPRS “From Molecules to Organisms” program is offered by the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in conjunction with the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory and the Eberhard Karls University Tuebingen, Germany.
The special feature of our program is its emphasis on interdisciplinary interactions. We want to train the next generation of scientists to study complex biological processes that cannot be adequately understood within the limits of a single discipline.
Training is offered in a range of core and specialised skills; a thesis advisory committee provides individual project guidance. English is the language of the school; places are fully funded.

Applicants are required to apply for any of the available projects:

  • Frank Chan, Friedrich Miescher Laboratory
    • Engineering Tn5 transposase for probing DNA and chromatin structure
  • Felicity Jones, Friedrich Miescher Laboratory
    • Chromatin and gene regulation in the context of the environment
  • Andrei Lupas, MPI for Developmental Biology
    • Biochemistry and evolution of the proteasome system in prokaryotes
    • Structure and mechanism of transmembrane signal transduction proteins
  • Boris Macek, Interfaculty Institute for Cell Biology, University of Tübingen
    • Proteomic investigation of molecular trade between co-cultured bacterial species
  • Patrick Müller, Friedrich Miescher Laboratory
    • De novo design of protein inhibitors targeting morphogens in development and disease
  • Thilo Stehle, Interfaculty Institute of Biochemistry, University of Tübingen
    • Virus-glycan interactions
    • Reaction mechanisms of bacterial glycosyltransferases
  • Estienne Swart, MPI for Developmental Biology
    • Molecular and high throughput investigation of natural, eukaryotic genome editing
  • John Weir, Friedrich Miescher Laboratory
    • CryoEM of meiotic crossover control

To be eligible for Phd Scholarships, an applicant must:

  • hold or expect to gain an excellent degree in Computational Biology, Biochemistry or a related subject at Masters level or equivalent
  • possess skills and knowledge matching to your intended project, plus a high level of motivation for basic research

To apply for 10 Fully Funded PhD Scholarships in Biochemistry, an applicant must submit the following documents with application:
