Details

The Smart Energy Buildings & Cities (SEB&C) PDEng program wants to contribute to the transition to an energy-positive built environment in which indoor environmental quality is optimized for health, comfort and/or productivity. To achieve these goals a transdisciplinary approach is required which:

  • addresses technological solutions for energy generation, storage, distribution and demand reduction
  • integrates and optimizes these in design, construction and operation of new and existing buildings

After the two year program PDEng trainees become technical designers with a broad technological understanding of energy related disciplines in the built environment (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, building physics and services and ICT), who excel in their own discipline and who are able to work in multidisciplinary design teams, contribute to design issues outside their own core disciplines, integrate different technologies into new products and concepts, and who understand the commercial aspects of these innovative products and concepts

Professional Doctorate (PDEng) trainee in Engineering will receive the following benefits:

  • A full-time traineeship of two years
  • Salary of € 1.913 per month
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance

Eligibility

To be eligible for Professional Doctorate (PDEng) trainee in Engineering, an applicant must have:

  • an excellent and highly motivated applicant with an MSc degree in Architectural Engineering, Building, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or equivalent
  • strong interest in the socio-technical aspects of the built environment and in architectural design (principles) in relation to the specific function and target groups of health/elderly care in the built environment is essential
  • an interest in developing new sustainable technologies and applications for the built environment
  • an academic attitude in order to develop new technologies and perform applied research with an integral view on what is needed for the future built environment
  • proficiency of the English and Dutch language (speaking and writing)

Applicants are required to submit the following documents with application:

  • Letter of motivation, maximum two pages
  • Curriculum Vitae, maximum three page
  • Copies of relevant BSc and MSc diplomas with transcripts
  • Proof of English proficiency tests scores such as IELTS or TOEFL or other proof of English proficiency
  • Copy (or a most recent draft version) of your MSc thesis
  • At least two names with contact details (preferably e-mail) of people whom we may contact for more information about you and your thesis, or last professional work
