Lecturer, Psychological Science – Curtin University, Malaysia

Applications are invited for a Full time job position of Lecturer, Psychological Science at Curtin University, Malaysia.


In this role, you will make significant contributions to teaching and research and will be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision.

You will be responsible for the organization and delivery of teaching and assessment; conducting lectures and tutorials; coordination and management of units, providing continuous feedback to students; academic counselling of students; participating in staff development activities; conducting quality research; attract competitive research grants and playing an active role in service and leadership.

This role contributes to teaching and research, but the balance of these two activities being variable by agreement through the Performance Management Program (PMP) process. All T&R staff should contribute to the scholarship of teaching, service and leadership at an appropriate level.

The incumbent is expected to have a growing profile in teaching, research and service/leadership. They are likely to lead or co-ordinate the work of other staff.



  • Deliver high quality teaching to undergraduate, honours and postgraduate students
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing reflective improvement in teaching
  • Conduct lectures, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and/or studio sessions, as appropriate, which stimulate and foster student learning
  • Mark and assess student work, provides continuous feedback to students and academic counselling
  • Contribute to curriculum innovation and content design where relevant
  • Prepare and deliver substantial components of courses/units in collaboration with other colleagues
  • Participate in teaching and learning external grant submissions
  • Supervise the program of study of honours students or postgraduate students engaged in course work
  • Keep abreast of current discipline theory and practise
  • Undertake a range of administrative functions connected with the subjects taught


  • Undertake nationally competitive and high quality research in discipline/field
  • Develop a coherent programme of research (to be agreed through the Performance ManagementProgram (PMP) process)
  • Participate in and act as Co or Chief Investigator in applications for competitive funding
  • Disseminate research findings through seminars, workshops and conferences
  • Publish/exhibit in high quality refereed journals/outlets in manner consistent with disciplinary practise
  • Provide effective supervision or research honours, research masters, and research doctoral students
  • Aspire to be recognised nationally for research in the field
  • Undertake administrative functions associated with research activities


To be eligible for Lecturer position, applicants must:

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline related to Psychology/ Psychological Science/ Behavioural Psychology/ Applied Psychology/ Health Psychology/Clinical Psychology or at least a Master’s degree holder in the discipline with progress being made towards PhD from a recognized university
  • Eligible for membership of the Australian Psychological Society
  • A demonstrated record of 2-3 years achievement in teaching and commitment to excellence in teaching
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising higher degree research students
  • History of successful competitive grant applications
  • Demonstrated unit coordination experience
  • An established record of research output/creative works in high quality refereed academic journals/outlets consistent with the discipline
  • A demonstrated record of ability to develop proposals for research funding, to design research projects and to lead and develop a research team
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and presentation skills in the English language
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity
  • Contribute to an active role in academic service and proven evidence of effective leadership within the department/faculty level as appropriate to the level of appointment
