Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor by The Department of Plant Sciences and The Queen’s College, to be held in the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Oxford, together with a Tutorial Fellowship at The Queen’s College, United Kingdom.

The appointment is in the field of Bioinformatics/Plant Genomics. The Department of Plant Sciences and The Queen’s College is looking for applicants with a proven track record of combining computational and experimental approaches to answer significant questions in Plant Biology.

Job details

The successful applicant is required to do the following duties:

  • carry out research that will contribute to the department’s research reputation
  • teach, supervise and examine undergraduate and postgraduate research students
  • contribute to and participate in the administration of the Department
  • In the College they will have joint responsibility for admission, teaching, and pastoral care of students reading degrees in Biology
  • play a role in the running of the college as a charity trustee and a member of its governing body

Benefits

The successful applicant for this job will receive the following benefits:

  • combined University and College salary from £47,263 per annum
  • additional benefits including a College housing allowance of £13,920 per annum
  • a College research allowance of £3.070 per annum
  • a College allowance for additional guidance and welfare responsibilities to students of £3,120 per annum after the first year in post
  • an allowance of £2,754 per annum would be payable upon award of Full Professor title

Eligibility

To be eligible for Associate professor job, the applicant must have:

  • PhD in a relevant field
  • proven research record of high quality at international level in Bioinformatics/Plant Genomics
  • compelling proposal for a sustainable research programme in Bioinformatics/Plant Genomics
  • record of attracting research funding, or in the case of new investigators evidence of the potential to do so
  • experience and ability to teach and supervise effectively at both undergraduate and graduate level in the general area of Plant Biology, and as set out in the ‘duties of the post’
  • ability and willingness to undertake the full range of academic and administrative duties expected within the department and the college
  • excellent communication, interpersonal, time management and organisational skills necessary for undertaking tutorial teaching and the pastoral care of students in the college, and for working constructively with colleagues at all levels
  • demonstrable independence in research, with a primary focus on bioinformatics/plant genomics
  • experience of research collaborations at national and international level; experience of small-group teaching
