Applications are invited for Full-time Permanant/Temporary Associate Professor in International Politics at The Department of Political Science and Public Management, University of Southern Denmark.


The Department of Political Science and Public Management, University of Southern Denmark, Odense invites applications for a position at the level of Associate Professor in International Politics. The call is part of a broader recruitment strategy to appoint one permanent, faculty member at the Associate Professor level and/or more temporary positions at the level of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant(s) will be tasked with a range of obligations in The International Politics (IP) section and in the Department of Political Science and Public Management, including:

  • Conduct and publish research at a high international level in areas of relevance to the International Politics section and to the Center for War Studies
  • Conduct relevant teaching and supervision within the department’s entire portfolio of study programs, including the full-time political science program, the Master program in International Security and Law and the professional Master in Intelligence and Cyber Studies
  • Apply for relevant individual/collective external research funding to develop the research environment in line with the strategic goals of the Department and the IP section
  • Engage in knowledge exchange activities with the wider society
  • Applicants are also expected to perform a number of research-related tasks such as conducting research management including supervision and mentoring of assistant professors, postdocs and PhD students, and participation in academic assessment committees


Appointment to the positions requires a PhD or equivalent and will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.


To be eligible for Associate Professor in International Politics, applicants must:

  • Delineate a research profile by indicating specific areas of expertise, main achievements to date, and the po­tential for international scholarly impact as well as research cooperation within the Center for War Studies
  • Document a substantial publication record at an inter­nationally recognized level
  • Document an ability to form and develop professional networks
  • Document experience with various teaching and supervision formats as well as good teaching results
  • Document an ability to develop and implement new pedagogical or didactical techniques
  • Have experience with and genuine interest in outreach or knowledge-sharing activities and/or cooperation with external partner
  • Applicants are also expected to document fulfilment of ONE of the following focus criteria:
    • Success in attracting larger amounts of external funding, and strong potential for successful fundraising of major projects within 2-3 years
    • Strong experience and good results with genuine course development and coordination and/or contribution to published teaching material
    • Proven ability to identify societal problems and to shape research agendas accordingly
