Applications are invited for Fully Funded DARE PhD Scholarships in Engineering at the University of Sydney, Australia.

Details

A number of opportunities are available for outstanding PhD scholars to work in a multidisciplinary research team in a new Australian Research Council (ARC) Training Centre for Data Analytics for Resources and Environments (DARE).

The DARE Centre will train PhD candidates in world leading data science methods that have real world applications for better decision making in the management of natural resources in Australia.

DARE PhD Scholarships in Engineering is funded in part by the Commonwealth of Australia through the Australian Research Council (ARC) Industrial Transformation Training Centre (Grant ID: IC190100031).

Benefits

  • DARE PhD Scholarships in Engineering will provide a primary stipend allowance of $40,000 per annum (fixed rate), subject to satisfactory academic performance
  • The Scholarship may provide a supplementary stipend allowance of $10,000 per annum (fixed rate), subject to satisfactory academic performance, to applicants who have an RTP stipend allowance
  • The duration of the primary and supplementary stipend allowance is as follows:
    • up to one year for a successful Masters by Research recipient
    • up to three years for a successful PhD recipient
  • PhD recipients may apply for an extension of the stipend allowance for up to six months
  • Academic course fees and the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) are also provided to successful international applicants, subject to satisfactory academic performance
  • The duration of the academic course fees and SSAF is as follows:
    • up to four research periods for a successful Masters by Research recipient
    • up to twelve research periods for a successful PhD recipient
  • PhD recipients may apply for an extension of academic course fees and SSAF for up to two research periods
  • If a successful applicant converts from a Masters by Research to a PhD or vice-versa, the maximum duration of the Scholarship becomes that of the new candidature
  • Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree prior to the commencement of the Scholarship will be deducted from the maximum duration of the Scholarship excluding the potential extension period
  • The Scholarship is for commencement in the relevant research period in which it is offered and cannot be deferred or transferred to another area of research without prior approval
  • No other amount is payable
  • The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funding

Eligibility

To be eligible for Fully Funded DARE PhD Scholarships in Engineering:

  • The Scholarship is offered subject to the candidate having an unconditional offer of admission to study full-time in a PhD or Masters by Research within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney
  • Candidates for the Masters by Research program must have the intent to transfer to a PhD after satisfactory completion of the first Progress Review interview within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney
  • Candidates must have the support letter, from their intended research supervisor in the Faculty of Engineering or Faculty Science at the University of Sydney to apply for an available project listed by that Supervisor as part of this Scholarship
  • Candidates must also hold at least one of the following:
    • An Australian Bachelor’s degree with Honours (First Class or Second Class Upper) or equivalent in a relevant discipline to the project, or
    • An Australian standard Master’s degree in Engineering or Science with at least 25% of the final year being a substantial research component or equivalent in a relevant discipline to the project
  • Candidates must apply and be considered for the Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend Scholarships
