Scholarship Description:

The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program is open to developing countries that are World Bank members. The scholarship covers master’s level programs in Multi-Subject, Development-Related Topics at universities in Japan, the United States, and Africa. Students from developing countries with appropriate professional experience and a history of supporting their nations’ development efforts who are applying to a master’s degree program in a development-related area are eligible for the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP).

Students must return to their home country after completing their degree to put their new abilities to work and contribute to their country’s social and economic progress.

Degree Level:

The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program is offered to pursue Masters’s level studies at universities in Japan, the United States, and Africa.

Eligible Nationalities:

Students from developing nations that are members of the World Bank are eligible.

Eligibility Criteria:

Details on Eligibility Criteria are published in the Application Guidelines for each call for applications, and these precise eligibility criteria are scrupulously followed. There are no exceptions.

In general, nationals of developing countries must:

  • Be a national of a World Bank member developing country 
  • Not hold dual citizenship of any developed country
  • Be in good health
  • Hold a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree earned at least 3 years prior to the Application Deadline date
  • Have 3 years or more of recent development-related work experience after earning a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree
  • At the time of applying for the scholarship, you must be working in paid full-time development-related employment. Have completed at least 3 years of paid development-related work since acquiring a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent university degree) within the previous 6 years of the Application Deadline.
  • On or before the Scholarship Application Deadline date, be admitted unconditionally (except for funding) for the upcoming academic year to at least one of the JJ/WBGSP participating master’s programs located outside of the applicant’s country of citizenship and country of residence listed at the time the call for scholarship applications opens. The letter of admission must be uploaded before submitting your application.
  • Not be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, and/or staff of any World Bank Group appointment, or a close relative by blood or adoption of the aforementioned, with “close relative” defined as Mother, Father, Sister, Half-sister, Brother, Half-brother, Son, Daughter, Aunt, Uncle, Niece, or Nephew.
  • Please notice that all qualifying requirements are rigorously followed. There are no exceptions. During an open call for applications, the eligibility conditions will not alter. However, between the closing of one application procedure and the opening of the next, this information is subject to change.

Application

To be considered for a JJ/WBGSP scholarship, you must first apply to at least one of the Participating Programs and be unconditionally accepted. YOU MUST INCLUDE AN UNCONDITIONAL LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE FROM A PARTICIPATING MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAM IN YOUR APPLICATION. Once the scholarship is available, applicants must apply online.
